Kelly Ann Riley MFT

I am a licensed marriage and family therapist and a play therapist, and I work with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families. My therapeutic style generally focuses on generating insight, cultivating acceptance, and creating behavioral change. I understand that finding a therapist is a step towards having the life, relationships, career, and happiness you desire and I am happy to be a part of this process for you and your loved ones.

The following information is provided to help answer questions you may have about therapy in general or my practice.

When working with children, I employ play therapy, which is the preferred modality for children. They communicate more freely during play.

I have a certificate in play therapy from the University of California at San Diego and am registered with Association for Play Therapy as a Play Therapy Supervisor. I have 16 years experience working with children, which includes classroom experience both before and after becoming a licensed therapist.

When working with teens and adults, I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which is a method that helps in understanding the connection between thoughts, feelings and behaviors.

I am a certified Co-Parenting Specialist, which is a specialization that addresses parenting issues that arise from parenting from separate homes.

I have been teaching parenting classes in the San Diego area for over five years. I have specialized training in two parenting programs, "Redirecting Children's Behavior" and "Developing Capable Young People"; both programs are focused on raising self-reliant, responsible children.

Whether the objective is professional development, personal growth, skill building or enhancing your relationships with others, individual counseling can assist with clarifying and working towards your goals. Together we will establish a plan to maximize the time and energy you spend in therapy.

My professional experience has concentrated on helping all types of couples: single, married, and married with children.  Relationship issues can be overwhelming and can affect your life in negative ways. My goal is to provide a safe, supportive, and interactive environment to help you cope with and overcome any obstacles, and restore balance and harmony to your life.
